/ How We Are Helping Our Local Community
We believe that businesses benefit first-hand by building local relationships. And it’s not only businesses that benefit, but the local community as a whole.
It’s not always easy to do the right thing as much as we’d like, as ourday to day lives have a habit of taking over, but when we do find the time to stop and take note of the world around us amazing things can happen.
Our various business events and digital marketing services help local businesses get their brand in front of more of the right people, but during 2019 it also gave our local business community, colleagues and customers the opportunity to help those most in need, and that’s exactly what we did.
To quote a large well-known supermarkets very insightful strap line, every little really does help. Okay I tweaked it a little, but you get my point.
So, here’s what we’ve been up to for the last 12 months…
In June fellow local business Toni Marie Yoga celebrated #InternationalYogaDay by holding a free yoga class. Instead Toni asked attendees to donate a sanitary product to help local women and girls in crisis.
When we heard about this wonderful campaign we decided to ask our local business networking group in Leigh if they could help, and you didn’t disappoint.
Thanks to the efforts of Toni and her yoga class, our network and many other local businesses in and around Atherton, over 5000 sanitary products were donated to Atherton and Leigh foodbank. This meant many woman and girls no longer had to make the choice between food or tampons.
Ann and Norman Kendrick from Joseph’s Goal are regular faces at both our Wigan and Leigh business networking groups. These meetings give them a platform to raise awareness of NKH (Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia) an ‘extremely rare, life-limiting genetic disorder that severely affects development’, which is a condition their grandson Joe was born with.
Joseph’s Goal and its supporters are tirelessly working to raise more money to fund research and is currently the largest fundraiser in the world for NKH.
During 2019 Joseph’s Goal were our official charity for both our Leigh and Wigan Business Expo’s. We were also pleased to support them, along with some of our networking colleagues, at their annual ball in June, as well as helping by designing the event programme.
For the past two years we have supported Joe’s Jumper day by asking our Christmas networking group to wear their best Christmas jumpers and make a donation to the charity. They also donated lots of raffle prizes and raised over £80 during our 2019 meeting, beating our total from 2018. A further £155 was raised when Renata Green, Money Saving Queen, donated a Fortnum and Mason hamper which was won by Anne Hurcombe.
StreetLife are a Blackpool based charity who support young people who are vulnerable and need help make better more informed choices about their lives. Most of the people StreetLife’s trained staff and volunteers help are homeless.
We were delighted to help StreetLife raise awareness of their charity and drum up support for their cause by being our official charity for Blackpool Expo 2019.
So to sum up, if one woman doesn’t have to make the choice between food or tampons, Joe gets a few pounds closer to his goal, Wigan Youth Zone can get one more child off the streets doing something fun in a safe environment and StreetLife help one more homeless person, it’s been an amazing year and just imagine what we can achieve in 2020!
